Pride is a Secret Enemy

Have you ever been blind-sided by pride?

Pride is so deceptive. You may have been hit by pride like Miriam was in the Bible when she and Aaron confronted Moses.

Together they pointed at Moses accusing him of lifting himself up, but it was the other way around.  Pride is the basis of all sin.  Pride is the door that allows other sins like anger and rage to make their home in our heart.

Pride shows itself in so many ways and it will block your ability to hear God’s voice.  Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God and He will lift you up.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,”
Philippians 2:3

Overwhelm Fear with Faith-Filled Prayer

Overwhelm Fear with Faith-Filled Prayer

Have you ever been in a stress-filled situation and said, “I’m overwhelmed.” To be overwhelmed in today’s world means that you have such a flood of things coming towards you that you are unable to think clearly. You feel stressed, anxious and out of sort. Your busyness has gotten out of control so that life is coming at you rather than you purposefully living your life to the full.

faith-filled prayer

To overwhelm fear with faith-filled prayer means that you overcome your flesh and the enemy through prayer. This means that you overcome, overpower, destroy and crush fear under your feet. You need to aggressively overthrow fear so that rather than being overwhelmed, you overwhelm the enemy.

Schedule Consistent Prayer and a Place to Pray

As simple as it sounds, spend time in prayer. Choose a place to pray and schedule a time on your calendar and then keep your appointment with God. Your destiny depends on your consistency. Even with this said, do not become overly-religious with this and set impossible goals for yourself. If you are having trouble praying for 5 minutes, do not write down a goal to pray 5 hours. Start where you are and grow deep. Reading this book is going to increase your desire to spend time with God.

Spend Daily Time in God’s Word

The ammunition in your arsenal to annihilate the enemy is the Word of God. If you have a shallow approach to God’s word, you will only have surface victories. To have a deep, satisfying relationship with God and consistently defeat the devil you must consistently wield your sword, which is the Word of God.

Steadily Invest Time in Meditation and Declaration

The North American Church neglects the power of meditation to transform your mindset and inform your character. The Psalmist talks about the spiritual life of someone who is blessed and prosperous.

“But his delight is in the law of the Lord,

And in His law He meditates day and night.

He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water.

That brings forth its fruit in its season

Whose leaf does not wither

And whatever he does shall prosper.”

Psalm 1:2-3 NKJV

The Biblical practice of meditation is often neglected during the contemporary social media era where we are bombarded by messages every day.  To meditate means that you reflect, ponder, and contemplate God’s word in a holistic way. It is not a mental exercise only. If you go and observe the Jews spending time meditating at the “Wailing Wall” in Jerusalem you will see that their meditation consistently move to declaration. The jews may rock back and forth while meditation upon Scriptures and praying intense prayers, or wailing to God.

Declarative prayer is when you activate the biblical knowledge of God’s word, will, and ways into spoken prayer. You are literally declaring the word of God out-loud. Sometimes, you are reading out-loud written prayers that are based on the Bible. As you confess the truth of God from your lips, you activate your faith and obliterate your fear.

Strategically Plan Your Day and Abide in Christ

If you are constantly aware of God’s presence and power as you walk through your daily life you will overpower the enemy. You and I need to plan our days under the direction and leading of the Holy Spirit. We need to schedule our day and prioritize what God is calling us to do and not be distracted by the enemy.

You may already know that you should do the tactical maneuvers listed above, yet if you are like me you are not 100% activating your faith and walking this out. Relax, none of us are walking this out 100% of the time. All of us fall short of what God fully intends for our life of prayer.

5 Ways to Get Rid of Fear #FearlessFaith

Fear Puts God on Trial

When we are fearful or anxious we are declaring that we can’t fully trust in God to care about the details of our lives.

Fear, anxiety, intimidation are part of the family of the enemy. Satan’s schematic for your life is that you will be constantly stressed, uncertain, and hesitant about your daily lie. He snares you through your desire to please man more than God.

Sin starts when I partner with fear. It’s not a sin to feel anxiety, its when I embrace dread that it poisons the perspective of my mind.

If we don’t replace fear with faith, we will be led down the dangerous path of unbelief and disobedience. Unbelief accuses God at His very essence. It puts God on trial to prove Himself while denying the undeniable evidence all around.

To engage in prayer is to declare war on the demonic forces of intimidation that accuse God. These accusations can come as subtle thoughts against the power of God. Fear will manifest as insecurity, concern, despair, doubt dread, horror, panic, agitation, unease, fright, and terror.

If you are struggling with some sort of anxiety in your life, you can know without a doubt that worry has come from the enemy.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity,

but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:6

Many of us do not fulfill the call of God on our lives because we are shackled by timidity. Every time we try to move forward, the devil uses intimidation to try to stop us.

Doubt will make you want to stand still and hesitate. Anxiety accuses God for every difficult thing that you have experienced in your life. We let doubth have power over us when we try to self protect and not experience pain. The dread of lack, failure, rejection, or abandonment take hold in our lives if we haven’t thoroughly invited God in to help us overcome emotional pain and loss.

You and I need to learn to step out and obey God in spite of panic. Sometimes, you have to do what God says even when you feel afraid.

To have fearless faith does not mean that you don’t experience concern. It means that you face your anxieties and overcome them with faith.

Faith Unlocks Destiny #FearlessFaith

Faith Unlocks Destiny

Faith fueled the desire to run in a sickly, poor black girl with braces on her legs from polio. “I’m tired of being sick” she told her doctor who had treated her for scarlet fever, whooping cough, measles and chicken pox. Every morning she got up and put on the cold braces on her legs, but her heart was warmed with faith. She had fight in her spirit. Her name was Wilma Rudolph who in 1960 became the first American woman to win three gold medals at a single Olympic Games.

Faith Unlocks Destiny

How does a a crippled girl fight through sickness, poverty, and racism to achieve her dreams?– FAITH!

Every God-sized dream requires faith to open the door.  What God-sized dream do you have in your life that needs to be unlocked by faith?

Faith is believing in the power of God to prevail in your life situation. Faith is a confident belief and hope and fuels consistency and determination.

To have faith is to believe in the power of God to change the universe through the simplicity and mystery of walking with God.

Faith courageously moves forward convinced that God is all knowing, all powerful, and always present. Faith is fearless reliance on the God of the universe to be personally involved in the daily details of life.

If you want to succeed in life, you gotta have faith. You have to believe that as a result of your prayers that God will reward you when purposefully pursue Him:

“And it is impossible to please God without faith.

Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists

and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”

Hebrews 11:6 NLT

To be diligent is to actively and energetically chase after God. It’s not as though He is hiding from you. It’s similar to when you were little and played hide-and-seek with your father. He wasn’t really hiding when He stood behind the tree. He was anticipating that you would find him.

He longs to be discovered for who He truly is. He created us with a capacity to be intimate. To actively pursue God through prayer fulfills our own longing in the soul of desiring to know and be known. There is no one who knows us better than the ONE who created us and established a purpose for our lives. He is the ONE who impregnates you with vision for your destiny in life. But only you can carry his dream to fulfillment. You have to put your faith into action.

Putting Faith into Action

When Wilma Rudolph began to run, she was putting her faith into action. She became fearless in her resolve to pursue her dream. She had no promises that she would succeed, but her legs became stronger with each length that she ran.

You put your faith into action every time you overcome your fears…

…fears of failure

…fears of the unknown

…fears of humiliation

…fears of rejection

…fears of pain

I don’t know what your list of fears are — but I know that if you are human, you have struggled with fear. Fear is a common foe to all of us. It chases us down in the middle of the night. It accuses us and assaults us by parading our imperfection before us. Fear shows us the difficult climb ahead. Fear takes facts and twists them till they become exaggerated in our minds.

Faith in Action #LifeGivingLinkup

Faith in Action

Do you live out your faith so others are changed?

Faith in Action

My grandma put her faith in action in practical ways. She was a bold Mennonite woman who was willing to get out of her comfort zone to follow God. Watch this short video where I share her story:

I think about how much courage it took for my grandmother to take her chicken noodle soup over to some of the neighbors who were known bootleggers. She boldly shared her faith with men and women who were not walking with God. To this day, I still remember Fred who sat at my grandparents table reading the newspaper and cursing. He was one that found welcome in their home of restoration and healing.

When a girl from their conservative home town got pregnant, Grandma hosted their wedding in her backyard. She then led the new husband to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. I know this, because this young man grew to be my bible school teacher who led me to Christ. He shared how he was a part of an all-night prayer meetings where my grandma and grandpa cried out for the salvation of their family and friends.

Hearing these stories challenge me to put my faith in action. It’s not enough to go to church on Sunday or read the Bible if it doesn’t impact our actions.

The Bible says,

“Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener

when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other.

Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don’t act

are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away,

and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like.

But whoever catches a glimpse of the revealed counsel of God

—the free life!—even out of the corner of his eye, and sticks with it,

is no distracted scatterbrain but a man or woman of action.

That person will find delight and affirmation in the action.”

James 1:22-25 MSG

Act On What You Hear

Faith requires more than mental agreement. Faith requires action. Try this simple exercise. After reading the Bible, take a moment to clear your mind. Open up your hands in a gesture to receive, and close your eyes to concentrate. Ask yourself these questions:

  • What specific part of God’s written word do I need to apply to my life?
  • What is God calling me to do today?
  • Is there anything that He has told me to do, but I have not fully obeyed?
  • Is there anyone that God wants me to serve today?

As you learn to listen to God’s voice, He will lead you and guide you. You will no longer just read the Bible, you will live out what the Bible says. Make your faith real, so that the message of Jesus Christ is lived out loud.
