A Humble Heart

Do you get tired of the commercializing of Christmas?

This is Christmas it’s not the tinsel, it’s not just the giving and receiving, it’s not even the carols, but it’s the humble heart that receives anew the wondrous gift of Christ.  It takes a humble heart to fully embrace the Christmas story.

Helen Keller said the only blind person at Christmas time is he who has not Christmas in his heart.  So let Christmas fill your heart with the sweet joy of anticipation.

Enter in to God’s Courts

How do you come to God?

I know when I was growing up I loved the scripture from Psalm 100 that says, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise, give thanks to him and bless his name for the Lord is good, his lovingkindness is everlasting and his faithfulness is to all generations.”

The key that opens heaven is a thankful heart.  Entrance into God’s courts happens when you and I simply praise God.  The instant that you become thankful in your heart your perspective will change.

Gratitude

Are you thankful for life as it comes?

Gratitude is a constant attitude of thankfulness and an appreciation for life as it unfolds. As you and I learn to live in the moment then we will notice the abundance around us.  When we express our appreciation freely we actually influence our environment for good.

So today think about the richness of your life even in life’s trials God is there. Even in your most difficult disappointments God never leaves.  He is the constant in your changing life.  He is God and He is good.

Joy Filled Giving

Do you want to grow closer to God and know his heart?

As you and I learn to know God’s heart we will learn to cultivate true giving.  Joy filled giving holds us close to the heartbeat of Jesus. It takes us past dead traditions into the arms of Jesus.

I am filled with Joy when…

… I let go of the past, but cherish it’s sweetness.

… I live in the present, and embrace the new normal.

… I lay hold of the future, with hope and expectation.

Thankful to God

How thankful are you towards God?

Have you ever noticed that its how we look at things and our perspective that makes such a difference. So when you go outside and look at a rosebush do you lean forward and  enjoy the beauty of the rose and smell the fragrance or do you not like to fool with rosebushes because they have so many thorns?

What is it that you see in life? Do you have a tendency to see the good or to concentrate on the negative? It all depends on your perspective.  Today focus your mind and heart on being thankful to God. As your heart is thankful your life will be blessed.

Growth Takes Time

Does it ever feel like you aren’t growing as fast as you would like?

Growth takes time, it takes it.  At least 9 months in the human womb for life to be nurtured before a child is born.  It takes dozens of years after that human being to grow into someone who actually cares about other people.

In a similar way our new birth in Christ is a starting place of growth in our lives.  Growth takes time.  The starting place for growth in you and me is to learn to live generously, caring for others, laying down your life for others to grow.

Turn Negative Thinking Around

Do you ever struggle with negative thoughts?

One afternoon I admitted my negative thoughts to my own mother.  She’s a pretty spunky lady and she put her hand on her hip and shook her head to one side and said, “Sue, you’re in stinkin’ thinking.  Well stinkin’ thinking is a downward staircase leading to a dark place in our emotions.

When you are stuck in this dungeon of dreary thoughts it will impact every area of your life.  You can’t afford to get stuck in a funk for long.  Turn negative thinking around by believing and speaking the true promises of God.

The Lord protects and defends me; I trust in him. He gives me help and makes me glad; I praise him with joyful songs.
Psalm 28:7
