Replacing My Manipulation with God’s Goodness
I don’t know what heartbreaking situation you may be facing within your family as you read this book. Your child may be diagnosed with autism. You may be dealing with a rebellious child. You may have a child fighting cancer. You may be in a difficult time in your marriage or going through a bitter divorce. You may be a single mom fighting to have enough time with your child. There is nothing more agonizing than trauma within the walls of your home.
Here’s a video where I share some of my story:
Manipulation Can Drive a Child to Rebellion
I look back at our “tough love” approach, and we would do things differently, knowing now that it is “the goodness of God” that leads to repentance (See romans 2:4). We tried to force our way on our 18-year-old rather than realize that god Himself gave her the power of choice.
We were blinded to our own issues of pride, manipulation, and control. our daughter’s sin was magnified and exaggerated in our eyes. it makes me think of Jesus’ parable where He warns us:
“And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?
How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’
when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?
Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye;
then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.”
You Can Trust in God’s Goodness
Begin today to replace any type of manipulation or control in your life with the goodness of god. When you understand that god is in control and that He is good, you can leave things in His hands.
He will show you times to be firm and times to show mercy. at every moment of every day the fruit of His goodness is available to you.
