New Beginnings in Dallas Texas Area
As we were driving 5 vehicles to Texas (2 Trucks, 2 Vans, a car, and a trailer), I kept reminding myself that we were not in covered wagons being shot at or caught in a stampede of buffalo. Sure we had to sleep on the floor when we got to town, but we didn’t have to cut down our own trees to build a log cabin first. Going west is much easier these days.
We were helped by so many friendly people, including our new banker Ryan who laughed when he heard our story. He said, “The only thing bigger than the state of Texas is your ‘to-do-list.’ I’m sweating just thinking about what you do every day.”
I made sure that I wore my new cowgirl hat, vest and boots as we signed the contract to our new home… Just embracing our call as Texans!
For 3 days straight new friends brought us delicious meals. I got to spend time with my friend Rebecca Carroll from KCBI radio when she brought us dinner. We went to the park with her son Nick and daughter Kaitlyn. It was wonderful after a long day of unloading boxes to sit around the table and eat a wonderful meal.
Within a few days, we had met seven new families that live close to us. Zeke and Dre are enjoying meeting friends at the neighborhood park.
Each day we face simple challenges such as finding our “lost” things in boxes, getting the wifi set-up or enrolling our sons in school. It has been 28 years since Wayne and I made a cross-country move. We were just graduating from seminary and college then.
The hardest thing we had was saying goodbye to our adult children. Our oldest daughter Rachel, her husband Dustin, and our youngest daughter Sarah Faith had traveled down with us to help us move. We were tearful at the airport, but confident that God is calling us to reach out to our new friends and neighbors in the Dallas area.
